San Jose, Costa Rica
San Jose is the capitol of Costa Rica. It is a lovely city surrounded by green hills and volcanos. You may even see a sloth or a family of sloths. The city takes pride in their coffee, Although I don't drink coffee, I did have cup. The people were kind and I have never seen so much body art (tattoos) in one city.
Areas:
Downtown San Jose
Downtown is great for walking to museums (Plaza de la Cultura, Museo de Jade, and Museo National). It is also close to a variety of resturants and bars.
Stays:
Airbnb
I chose to stay in an Airbnb this trip. There are several in the downtown area. The price was better than a hotel for this trip.
Gran Hotel Costa Rica
This hotel overlooks the National Theatre and is steps from cafés, shops, museums and other top attractions. It's a quick walk to downtown.
Restaurants:
Restaurante Nuestra Tierra
This place has traditional Costa Rican dishes. It is an open space with a kind staff and live music. It is a great introduction to Costa Rican food.
Restaurante Wong's
Wong's has a variety of Asian dishes. People really seem to enjoy the dim sum. It is a beautiful atmosphere, and the staff was kind.
Activities:
National Museum of Costa Rica
The museum has exhibits highlighting Costa Rican natural history, anthropology, archaeology, and history. There is also a butterfly garden located in the museum.
Jade Museum Costa Rica
There are over 7,000 pieces of Jade in the museum’s collection. The Jade Museum shows the process involved in creating jade pieces and has displays explaining the importance of jade in ancient Costa Rican life.
Gyms:
City Sport Center Gym
It is a small gym, and has a decent amount of equipment. The owner is kind and welcomes people to be healthy.
Wellness Studio
This gym is decent. It has everything you need for a great workout.
Desserts:
Lolo Mora's Ice Cream
It is said to be the original ice cream place of San Jose. It's famous vanilla flavor is associated with the options on the menu. Everything with a touch of vanilla.
Pops
Pops is a chain ice cream shop in San Jose. There are different flavors and they offer waffle cones. The ice cream is yummy.
Drinks:
El Social
El Social has some great cocktails. The music and staff are nice. It is also a friendly environment.
Selina San Jose
This is actually a hostel, and I happen to walk in to go to the bar. There was karaoke and if you participated there were free shots. There were also some great drinks that were delicious from the menu.
