Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro is iconic in the eyes of many in the world. It is a beautiful destination and I am in awe of the ocean and movement in this destination. There are great buffets and a variety of food available. The people speak Portuguese and are welcoming for the most part. Stealing does take place here due to the poverty in the city.

Areas:
Copacabana
Copacabana is internationally famous. You will fall in love at first sight when you see the view of the famous Copacabana Beach surrounded by beautiful mountains. This neighborhood not only offers spectacular landscapes but also provides amazing Brazilian restaurants, colorful bars, and beautiful shops.

Ipanema
If you are a beach bum you will enjoy spending a lot of time on Ipanema Beach, feeling the Brazilian atmosphere, and watching epic scenery. If you can manage to leave the sand, take a walk along the glamorous streets of Ipanema.
Stays:
Rio Othon Palace
Rio Othon Palace offer spacious rooms with sea or mountain views. Some of the rooms include hot tubs, ideal for a soak after a day spent kicking back on the sand. The rooftop pool and loungers offer another spot for taking in the seafront views. The Skylab restaurant fuses French and Brazilian cuisine.

Cdesign Hotel
Further from the city center is the exquisite CDesign Hotel, just a few steps from the beach. This place is intentionally located further west for the utmost tranquility, though there is access to a host of nearby restaurants and shopping centers. Minimalist design takes center stage with white the dominant shade throughout, giving the hotel a relaxed beach house feel. Enjoy a fresh filet of sea bass , washed down with a cool glass of white wine, at seafront restaurant, Ondas do Mar.

Restaurants:
Carretão Ipanema Classic Grill
A traditional steakhouse with a variety of all you can eat meats and a full buffet. The oxtails were delicious here. They also offer desserts for an additional charge.

Restaurante Chon Kou
A family run Chinese restaurant that has been serving classic dishes for 40 years. This place stays open until 12 midnight, and it is a wonderful option when other places close at 10pm.

Activities:
Christ the Redeemer
The iconic Christ the Redeemer stands tall with arms open wide to bless everyone in Brazil (that's how I view it).  It is a magnificent sight. Over all 220 steps that lead to the famous statue feet, it was elected one of the Seven Wonders of the World made by formal voting in 2007 by the Swiss Institution New 7 Wonders Foundation.

Sugarloaf Mountain
One of Brazil’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of Rio de Janeiro’s beautiful natural surroundings, Sugarloaf Mountain is a must-see attraction. To reach the mountain's peak, ride aboard the world’s third-oldest cable car, or hike through the Brazilian rainforest if you're up for a challenge. Once at the top of the 1300 feet high mountain, you’ll have panoramic views over the whole city and beyond.

Gyms:
Smart Fit
There are several Smart Fit Gyms to choose from with day passes ranging from 30 to 35 reals, approximately $7.

Desserts:
Sorvete Itália - Arpoador
This is a traditional ice cream shop in Rio. They have classic brazilian flavors such as mango, pistachio, and chocolate. They also have ginger mango, cinnamon, key lime pie, and Romeo and Juliet.

Canarioca By Juan Carlos
Wonderful atmosphere, refined and cozy, Chef Juan Carlos is polite and attentive. The cheesecake is delicious, and there are various flavors of wine. I really enjoyed it.

Drinks:
Beach Drinks
Go to the beach, see a vender, establish the price for a chair and umbrella (no more than 15-20 reas), and have a drink in awe of the ocean!

Caipirinha
You can go almost anywhere and get a Caipirinha. Cachaça and caipirinha are drinks that you can not miss during your visit to Rio de Janeiro. But beware! There are several types of cachaça produced throughout Brazil, with various flavors and different qualities.

Smokes:
Café e Charutaria Lolló Tabacaria Lolló
A variety of smoking products available including pastries.
