Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is the capital of Georgia. It played an important part in both the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. I enjoy the black excellence that is in Atlanta. There are awesome resturants and beautiful sites.

Areas:
Downtown
It makes sense to be based in Downtown Atlanta to be close to the city’s premier attractions, especially for families: World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, and Children's Museum of Atlanta are all here.

Midtown
Approximately two miles north of Downtown, Midtown is best known as being the arts and cultural heart of the city with its theaters, museums, and parks. Highlights include the Fox Theatre, High Museum of Art, Woodruff Arts Center, Center for Puppetry Arts, the Jewish history chronicled at the Breman Museum, and the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film. Piedmont Park is the city’s premier green space, also home to Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Stays:
The Westin Peachtree Plaza
Set in Downtown, this polished 73-story hotel with a mirror-glass façade is a 13-minute walk from the Georgia World Congress Center and a 15-minute walk from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Airbnb
I have found great deals in Atlanta on Airbnb.

Restaurants:
Virgil's Gullah Kitchen & Bar West Midtown
Virgil’s Gullah kitchen & bar is a love letter to the Gullah Geechee culture - serving up those deliciously authentic dishes and signature cocktails that folks in the South love.

Big Dave's Cheesesteaks
Big Dave's serves grass-fed beef cheesesteaks, eggs rolls & wings. Delicious!

Activities:
Martin Luther King, Jr. National Park
Come hear his story, visit the home of his birth, and where he played as a child.  Walk in his footsteps, and hear his voice in the church where he moved hearts and minds.  Marvel at how he was an instrument for social change.

Six Flags Over Georgia
Six Flags is a theme park located in Mableton the largest regional theme park in the Southeast, Six Flags is home to more than 40 rides including 11 roller coasters, three children’s areas, water rides and thrill rides.

Gyms:
Planet Fitness
There are various PF.

LA Fitness
There are various LAF.

Drinks:
S.O.S Tiki Bar
Atlanta is far from the tropics, but a visit to S.O.S. Tiki Bar could easily lead you to believe otherwise. With its dim lighting and retro décor, S.O.S. is one pour of rum away from moonlighting as a cozy cocktail bar in Maui.

Nouveau Bar & Grill
The menu at this College Park restaurant and lounge centers around comfort foods, like jerk wings, sticky fried ribs, four cheese spinach dip, and Windy City crab cakes, paired with boozy punches and frozen margaritas and frozen boozy lemonade.

Smokes:
Sivas Midtown
Sivas, located in one of Midtown’s renovated houses-turned-lounges, has plenty of areas and is always bustling with people. Come here for the hookah fruit bowl, which offers pineapple and orange options, and can be equipped with milk, fruit juice or a shot of well liquor as the cooling liquid, and even coconut-flavored charcoal.

CRU Hookah Lounge
The Atlanta-based CRU is the largest Black-owned nightlife chain in the country. Offering unique hookah flavors, hemp oils and a menu of specialty cocktails and small plates, CRU is a relaxing hangout that has become a destination among locals and celebs.
